Eligible WEX fleet customers can now access the Standard Fleet connected vehicle platform, according to Work Truck Online. WEX described the launch as bringing Standard Fleet's fleet management experience to its customers, including digital keys, remote vehicle access and deviceless vehicle tracking.

The offering was announced at the WEX Venture Capital Summit in Portland, Maine. It is a commercial product that grew out of an earlier WEX Venture Capital investment.

How it works

Standard Fleet's platform links directly with supported vehicle manufacturers. That lets eligible WEX customers activate vehicle data and services without traditional aftermarket telematics installations, per the report.

The platform covers more than 30 supported vehicle brands. According to the source, compatible vehicles can be activated quickly, with no installation appointments, vehicle downtime or external devices.

WEX said operators are looking for simpler ways to manage vehicle data and services across mixed fleets as vehicles become more connected.

Carlos Carriedo, chief operating officer, Americas Payments and Mobility at WEX, said the move gives customers "a faster, simpler way to connect supported vehicles." David Hodge, founder and CEO of Standard Fleet, described it as bringing device-free telematics to WEX fleet customers, and said fleets can unlock connected vehicle data often without the time, expense or operational burden of installing aftermarket hardware.

WEX Venture Capital launched in 2023 and has invested in more than 15 companies and funds working on fleet operations, mobility, fintech and workflow automation. WEX took part in Standard Fleet's Series A round in 2025.

David Klein, head of WEX Venture Capital, said the goal is not only to invest in startups but to bring their products to WEX customers. He called Standard Fleet an example of that strategy.

What is not yet clear

The source does not say how the platform is priced, which vehicle brands and model years are supported, or what data fields are available. It also does not say whether the data is offered through standards such as AEMP 2.0 / ISO 15143-3, or how it ties into WEX fuel card and payment data. Fleets should ask a WEX representative for those details, which is the route the company points to for more information.
