JCB makes LiveLink telematics standard on mini excavators and site dumpers

JCB has made its LiveLink telematics system standard on all mini excavators and site dumpers, so customers get connected machine data from delivery. The company says LiveLink is now available across its entire construction and agricultural equipment ranges.

JCB has made LiveLink, its telematics system, standard on all of its mini excavators and site dumpers. According to Industrial Vehicle Technology International, customers on these ranges get access to connected machine data from the day the equipment is delivered.

With this move, JCB says LiveLink is now available across the company's entire construction and agricultural equipment ranges.

What operators get

LiveLink is accessed through a web browser and a mobile app. JCB says it provides information on machine location, utilisation, fuel consumption, maintenance requirements and security.

For the mini excavator and site dumper ranges, JCB lists these benefits:

  • Alerting and tracking in the event of theft
  • Real-time machine tracking
  • Early fault detection to reduce downtime
  • Proactive servicing to reduce maintenance costs

JCB says the system covers both JCB and mixed fleets. That matters for contractors and hire companies that run machines from several manufacturers and want one place to see them.

Scale of the platform

According to JCB, LiveLink currently connects more than 580,000 machines worldwide and supports over 40,000 customers.

JCB says its aim is full connectivity across its machines, with the intention of improving visibility, uptime and support throughout the machine lifecycle.

Mario Martin Moser, group managing director for global aftersales at JCB, framed the change as part of a wider shift. "Connectivity is now a fundamental part of modern equipment ownership," he said.

What the source does not say

The source does not state whether LiveLink access on these machines comes with any subscription terms, how long any included service period lasts, or whether the standard fit applies in every market. It also does not give a start date for the standard fit or say how data from LiveLink can be shared with third-party systems. Buyers should confirm those details with their JCB dealer.

Small machines such as mini excavators and site dumpers are often moved between jobsites, shared across crews and left in unsecured locations. Built-in location and alerting is relevant to those use patterns, though JCB has not published theft recovery figures in the material reviewed.
