Samsara has launched Agent Studio, a platform that lets fleets build their own AI agents on top of the company's connected operations data. According to Heavy Duty Trucking, it is available to all Samsara customers and includes prebuilt agents as well as tools for creating custom chat and voice agents without code.
The agents draw on fleet data such as vehicle location, diagnostics, video and driver behavior, plus company-specific information. Agent Studio sits alongside Samsara Assistant, which answers questions and supports tasks in the dashboard, and the prebuilt agents for safety, maintenance and compliance.
"AI is quickly adopted when it's useful, and in physical operations that means an agent has to understand the operation and meet people where the work happens," said Johan Land, Samsara's chief product officer.
Voice agents for drivers
Customers can build agents that make and receive phone calls, giving drivers operational information and company guidance outside office hours. Samsara's example: a truck entering a geofence around a distribution center triggers a call covering entrances, parking, yard speed limits and required safety equipment. The driver can ask follow-up questions, and the agent can collect information about the visit afterward. Managers can then use Samsara Assistant to look at patterns, such as which locations have the longest dwell times.
Samsara said voice interactions passed chat interactions within four weeks of the voice-agent launch and have stayed higher each week since.
Adoption figures and customer examples
All figures below come from Samsara.
- Among organizations with agents deployed, 34% run two or more.
- Among organizations using voice agents, about 74% to 75% have increased weekly usage since their first month, and more than half have at least doubled it.
- Agent adoption on the platform is up sevenfold since June. The first 500,000 interactions took 112 days; the most recent 500,000 took 16 days.
Customer examples cited by the company:
- S. Bertram Foods uses an agent to track remaining stops, driving time and shift time. Samsara said it flags potential HOS violations three hours ahead and cut weekly manual review time by 84%.
- StreamTech Industrial uses an agent to find trips where no driver has logged in, and Samsara said it reduced unassigned driving time by 500 hours over two months.
- A North American passenger transit provider uses an agent to separate driver-behavior idling from regeneration cycles, maintenance and weather.
- A food distributor built a "Driver Wingman" agent that answers questions on parking, personal conveyance and fuel stops from company policy.
- Grand Isle Shipyard uses an agent to compile forms, inspection reports and asset data into monthly reports, which Samsara said now takes about five minutes per division, a 99% reduction.
The results are company-reported and not independently verified.
